**This post was originally intended to be posted on Tuesday, July 9, 2013 but the Internet wi-fi is spotty in the dorms.
For a fleeting moment in high school, I thought living in the dorms on a college campus would be a grand adventure. And had I actually done that and lived on campus when I was still a teenager, it probably would’ve been grand.
But as someone in her mid-30s and is used to the comforts of home (a real mattress for one) I’m over the illusion of dorm life I had in my head. Speaking of mattresses, I don’t even want to think about the kind of past the one I’m sleeping on this week has had. ::shudder::
I’m at my Advanced Placement (AP) conference at Pacific Lutheran University this week. I drove in last night since the drive is normally about 2-2.5 hours. No one wants to drive that stretch first thing in the morning.
When it’s light enough, I’ll take a picture of my cell for you. It’s that bare bones in here. But the nice thing is that I have suite mates to share the kitchen and living space and lamentations about the neighborhood. It’s a little rough across the street and none of us ladies are super crazy about being on the first floor. I switched rooms last night (our suite had an empty room) because my window didn’t have a screen. Nor does the room have air conditioning. I needed some air. Even after the switch, I locked up the window before bed, despite wanting some freshness. Too many cars rolling by, too many swearing/threatening yelling matches on the sidewalks, too much unknown happening to be careless with the window.
Other than that, I’m looking forward to this week. I love college campuses and am happy I only have to take a walk to be where I need to be all week. I’m excited to soak up all I can about AP so I can gear up to plan for the coming year which is slightly more than terrifying me at the moment.
Plus there’s a carrot to sweeten my motivation. On the way home Friday, I’ll be picking up my mom at the airport! She’ll be visiting with us for a few days and enjoying the lovely weather we’ve been having but has been missing almost every single time she’s been up. I’m sure there will be a pedicure, an apple pancake, and some shopping involved while she’s here.
